Look at a Medical Bill and explain what is there.
The first item to come in is the Explanation of Benefits (EOB). It explains what is expected that insurance is going to pay for the services and procedures that were done. This is not the bill and you cannot pay off of this information.
When the bill comes, it gives an exact final total of what is required to be paid. It will give a list of the services and procedures that were done and hopefully a breakdown. Below it will show total, how much the insurance coverage amount was and finally what is left for you to pay.
It should give options to pay, either website, phone or you can pay by mail. Usually an account number and invoice number are provided for reference to pay. Finally, there should be payment terms, such as “upon receipt” or “30 days”.
